Coldwater Mountain 50 Mile / 50K and Half Marathon

First Inagural race will be held August 23, 2014 (7:00a.m.CST). 100% single track trail on some awesome Coldwater Mtn Bike trails just off I20 near Anniston and Oxford Al.  Sandwiched halfway between the major metropolitan areas of Birmingham, Ala., and Atlanta, Ga. More than 25 miles of trails have already been built under the direction of IMBA Trail Solutions, with up to 75 miles scheduled to be completed by 2017. Coldwater Mountain is a 4000 acre tract of land owned by the State of Alabama’s Forever Wild organization and managed by the State Lands Division of the state’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The Coldwater tract was purchased by Forever Wild in the late 90′s and is presently being developed into a world class destination trail system for mountain bikers, trail runners, and hikers.

  • Saturday, August 23rd from 6:00am till 6:45am CST at Race Start/Finish area located at Coldwater Trail Head Parking at top of Mtn. See Directions and Map.
  • Race Starts at 7:00a.m. ALL runners will need to sign in race morning so we have count of all runners who start the race. 

Parking at Race Start/Finish:

Parking is limited at race start area. The main parking area is on top of Mtn but once full you will need to park on side of road leading up Mtn. Be sure all four tires are off roadway

Course:
  • Half Marathon Course Map NOTE: Half Marathon runners will run one 13.4 mile loop in clockwise direction. Half Marathon runners directional color markings are GREEN and are labeled Half Marathon. In addition to your GREEN color markings  there will be black directional arrows and orange lawn flags for all runners to follow. Click on link for course map. Elevation gain is just over 1700ft
  • 50K Course Map NOTE: 50K runners will run one 20.7 mile loop in clockwise direction then finish with running 2nd smaller loop in counterclockwise direction exactly as shown on the map link provided. 50K runners directional color markings are BLUE and are labeled 50K. In addition to your Blue color markings there will be black directional arrows and orange lawn flags for all runners to follow. Click on link for course map and elevation. Elevation gain is just over 3700ft
  • 50 Mile Course Map NOTE: 50 Mile runners will run two 20.7 mile loops in clockwise direction then finish with running 3rd smaller loop in counterclockwise direction. 50 mile runners directional color markings are RED and are labeled 50 Mile. In addition to your Red color markings there will be black directional arrows and orange lawn flags for all runners to follow. Click on link for course map. Elevation gain in approx 6,000ft
  • Aid Stations
  • Aid Stations / Mileage / Cutoffs: Half Marathon / 50K / 50 Mile

Time Limit for Runners:
  • Half Marathon runners will have no cut off. Course closes in 14 hours
  • 50K runners will need to start last 11 mile section no later than 9 hours in to the race. SO, ALL 50Kers should finish
  • 50 mile runners will need to start 2nd 20.7 mile loop by 6 hours and 3rd loop by 12 hours

Drop Bags:

  • Drop Bags will be allowed near the Start/Finish area. This will be convenient the for the 50K and 50 Mile runners. 

Headlamps:
  • 50 Mile runners may need headlamps if you think you may be past 7:30pm finishing. Don't forget to bring headlamps. They can be left at the Start/Finish are drop bag location

Two CREW access locations:
  • The primary location is the Start/Finish area where the 50K runners will pass through one time and finish later. 50 Milers will pass through two times and finish later.
  • The second is at the Anniston Trail Head located off Monsanto Street (located at Lat 33.6456358 Long -85.856370099).  See map at bottom of page. 50Kers will pass through one time and 50 milers will pass through two times.

Hotels, Lodging:
  • There are many hotels located off I-20 near Oxford and Anniston
